Something that we are striving for at the Bega Valley Data Collective is to improve the quality of life of everyone who lives in and around the Bega Valley. We know it’s a big ask and you’re probably wondering how on earth we could do that!

Quality of Life is influenced by financial, social and environmental factors. Data around them is key to our model for improving the Quality of Life for the citizens of the Bega Valley.

Measuring what matters is important but that alone is not enough. Our model has identified the components needed for Australia’s first community owned and run Data Space, here in the Bega Valley.

There are three key aspects, which interact. Let us explain a little more.

  1. Technology – In our data driven world there is a vast amount of information that is generated every day. To make it useful for us in the Bega Valley it needs to be captured, refined and analysed in a way that supports our community. We are privileged to have Seer Data and Analytics as our partner to provide the technology and resources to achieve this.
  2. Community – Having the access to refined data is not enough, we need our community to provide the context that can be applied to the data analysis. The context will allow stories to emerge that will contain solutions and initiatives generated at a grassroots level by our community. The Data Space will be a place for our community thought leader to come together and share stories and resources.
  3. Investment – Using data to provide evidence is essential in attracting investment, as well as measuring the impact of our placed based solutions. Funding from all levels of Government and non-Government agencies is in high demand. So, to secure resources for our initiatives, it necessary that our applications are backed with reliable and up to date data that supports the stories we are telling.

So, that’s how the Data Space will provide the resources needed to attract funding that will allow local solutions to be implemented that improve our Quality of Life.

Having identified what is required we are now seeking funding to build our Data Space and we are looking for your support by registering your interest and following our progress in building Australia’s first community owned and run Data Space.
